Working to CECOPS standards

Posted on: 14th April 2016

We’ve joined CECOPS, the independent standards body in the UK for disability equipment, wheelchair and seating services.

As occupational therapists working in the private sector in community settings we recognise the need for guidance on equipment assessment, provision and having clear lines of responsibility. We welcome the Community Equipment Code of Practice Scheme (CECOPS) as it enables us to address all regulatory and legal requirements.

This resource will facilitate an improvement in our standards and the quality of our equipment provision. There is a great benefit to our client group as it ensures that our staff are appropriately trained in the area in which they are working.

By adopting the code this ensures that our clients have thorough assessments and are provided with sufficient information to make informed choices regarding their equipment needs. The code is about improving quality for our clients.

We are currently working our way through the 47 standards and the code is providing us all with sound standards to aspire to.
